Bray is the largest town in Wicklow and has a competitive beauty market, so salons there tend to differentiate rather than offer identical menus. The electrolysis is the differentiator here, particularly for anyone with fair or grey hair that laser cannot treat.

Most of the work is cutting and colour — balayage, full colour, keratin treatments and permanent straightening — alongside braiding, weaves, extensions and wig installation, which is less widely available in this part of west Dublin.     Atlantic Beauty Salon serves Grange in north Sligo, the village on the N15 under Benbulben between Sligo town and Bundoran. Facials, nails, waxing and brow and lash treatments make up the list. North Sligo is thinly served for salons across a wide coastal area taking in Cliffony, Mullaghmore and Drumcliff, so a local option saves a run into Sligo town. Free parking, and generally better short-notice availability than the town.

    Bankz operates from Parkside on the Abbeyleix Road in Clonminam, Portlaoise, covering hair and beauty. The Abbeyleix Road side of the town is where much of Portlaoise’s newer commercial development sits, with free parking at the door — a real advantage over the tight town centre. Portlaoise has grown very fast on the back of the M7 and the Dublin rail line, and its salon market has expanded with it.

    Bare Beauty in Ennis specialises in waxing and lash treatments, and also offers sound therapy alongside the beauty side — an unusual pairing and worth knowing about if you are looking for something more restorative than a standard appointment.
